A Fuzzy Future: Blind Kittens Find Forever Home Together

The adorable pair of sibling kittens, affectionately named ‘The Umbles’, were found by rescuers with a debilitating condition known as eyelid agenesis. This painful condition leads to the underdevelopment and malformation of the eyelids, causing constant scraping of the delicate eye area by their eyelashes. While the cause of this condition is unknown, it can affect multiple kittens in the same litter. If left untreated, the corneas can become ulcerated, leading to an excruciatingly painful existence. Despite this, The Umbles showed remarkable resilience and made the most of their lives.

Tumble (calico), Bumble (black and white) and Rumble (all black)

Tumble, Bumble, and Rumble are three adorable kittens with unique fur patterns – calico, black and white, and all black. They were rescued from the streets of Los Angeles by a kind woman and her daughter, and fortunately, they were taken in by a caring foster home at Milo’s Sanctuary. The kitten experts who took care of them gave them the attention and vet care they needed to overcome their constant irritation. Despite being turned away by other rescues, Tumble, Bumble, and Rumble were lucky to have found a safe and nurturing place to call home. While Tumble was born without eyes due to eyelid agenesis, and Bumble and Rumble lost their vision, they still enjoy playing with toys like any other kittens and are incredibly adaptable. Aslan, a beautiful Maine Coon, previously suffered from entropion but successfully underwent eye surgeries.

The Umbles underwent cryotherapy after they visited an ophthalmologist to find a solution for their irritating hairs that kept scratching their eyes. Even though the procedure was delicate, the cryotherapy successfully removed the hairs preventing further irritation. However, Siamese Mumble passed away during surgery due to a heart stoppage, which was a heartbreaking loss for foster mom Andrea and the sanctuary. Despite all attempts to save him, he peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving a slight risk with any surgery. Foster mom Andrea drove down to the vet to be with Mumble before he crossed, holding him in her arms and promising him that he would not be forgotten.

Mumble the Siamese passed away

Unfortunately, Mumble the Siamese cat passed away due to complications during surgery. Despite the loss, the remaining Umbles, Tumble and Fumble, persevered and continued their search for a forever home. However, despite their playful and loving personalities, it took several months before they found a suitable home. As we previously mentioned, blind cats have remarkable abilities, which is evident in Tumble’s playful interaction with a feather toy in the accompanying video. How does she manage to do it without eyes?

Tumble the Umble

Andrea shared a heartwarming story about Tumble the Umble, who was born without eyes but still manages to play with a toy using her paw and sense of hearing. The Umbles, a trio of siblings, were in foster care for six months before finding their forever home together. Despite the bittersweet goodbye, Andrea is happy that the three cats get to stay together and enjoy their catio area with their human and dog sister. Throughout their journey, the Umbles have shown resilience and socialization, making them the best little cats ever.
