Rumi, a stray kitten who braved Hurricane Ian, found refuge at a local veterinary clinic where a compassionate veterinarian provided the necessary care and nourishment for her recovery.
Due to her demanding schedule, the veterinarian sought assistance from the rescue community to find a foster home where Rumi could receive the dedicated attention she needed to flourish.
Despite weighing only 12 ounces, Rumi possessed a remarkable personality. She insisted on timely bottle feedings, displaying an impeccable internal clock. She would gaze at her foster mom, seeking attention, recognize and respond to her voice, play with toys, and even attempt to find her footing.
As Rumi reached three weeks old, she grew stronger and began exploring her surroundings within the nursery. With her growing curiosity, she longed for a constant companion. Nadija actively searched for a friend for Rumi and discovered an orphaned, healthy, and friendly kitten in need of rescue at the county shelter.
The new addition, a tortoiseshell named Mia, matched Rumi in age and weight, igniting excitement in Nadija. A meet-and-greet was arranged, and although Mia was initially hesitant, she quickly adapted to her new surroundings when introduced to her roommate, Rumi. “Neither of them hissed. They explored their space while sniffing each other,” Nadija recalled.
