A few weeks ago, Coastal Bend Cat Rescue was notifiedaout a pregnant cat who had been found wandering around a property.
The finders believed that the cat had been abandoned there and reached out for assistance. Before rescuers could arrange help for the cat, she chose a spot to have kittens in the yard.
“They said mama was super sweet and they were hoping we would take those babies too when they were old enough,” Mary Huckabee, CBCR Officer, told Love Meow.

A volunteer who already had fosters in her care, learnedaout the cat family and offered to take them. Despite having her hands full, she set up a quiet and comfortable space so they could move in.
With the help of the property owner, they were able to bring the mom, Symphony, and her seven little ones to safety.
Symphony gave birth to her kittens in the yard@coastalbendcats
Symphony and her kittens settled in beautifully after a bit of touring around their new digs. She quickly dove back into mommy duties as she was swarmed by all seven hungry mouths.
“Symphony got her name because she was always talking (meowing and chirping) and purring. Her babies all got the names of famous composers. From the beginning, they loved pets and belly rubs,” Mary shared with Love Meow.
They are now safe in a loving foster home@coastalbendcats
With many demands from her seven, Symphony works around the clock, catering to their every whim. She makes sure that no one misses a meal or skips a bath.
The kittens are growing and developing by “notes and chords” and starting to run and tumble with each other. “They love to play and wrestle and sleep in a big pile.”
All the kittens are named after famous composers@coastalbendcats
“The two girls, Fanny Mendelssohn and Hildegard of Bingen are very confident and are the first to explore. Ludwig van Beethoven likes to sit back, analyze and join in once it’s proven fun. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Igor Stravinsky and Johann Sebastian Bach just want to cuddle all day.
“If they start wrestling while in a cuddle-puddle in their foster mom’s lap, it’s even better. Antonio Vivaldi would rather be climbing a cat tree, the food container, foster mom… he’ll climb anything.”

The crew of seven enjoy their daily and nightly cuddles in a tight-knit clowder, rumbling soundly in perfect harmony. They imbue the room with constant purrs and chirps.
Every time their foster mom comes in the door, she’s met with the sweetest sounds from the little composers.

“Symphony keeps up a purring metronome to help her little overachievers keep tempo to the music making.”
Recently, the rescue took in a lone kitten who desperately needed a friend. “He was showing lots of behavioral signs of being a singleton with lots of biting and scratching.”

Once the kitten was medically clear to interact with other cats, they decided to introduce him to Symphony and the composers.
“They have welcomed him into their mix and are teaching him good kitten play skills. So now, Hans Zimmer is part of the crew too.”

It took a village but Symphony and her seven are thriving in foster care along with their newly adopted member of the family.

When the kittens are big enough for adoption in a few weeks, they will be spayed and neutered and start looking for homes.
“Symphony and her kittens are sure to compose some excellent love songs.”
