While looking through profiles of animals in shelters, Jen Boger stumbled upon a picture of Mason, an aged and skinny cat with a fierce expression. As a cat intake coordinator for the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation in Northern Virginia, she knew that she had to bring this cat under their care. Boger, who also manages the blog Pokey Pot Pie, shared with The Dodo that Mason was described as both tough-looking and kind-hearted. She expressed her fondness for old tomcats that have endured years of street life and fights, stating that they are often some of the sweetest cats she has met.
Boger was aware that Mason’s future was uncertain if they didn’t intervene soon. Upon seeing his photo and description, Boger believed that Mason was the type of cat that would continuously be overlooked by potential adopters and other rescue groups due to his tough, scrappy, and sickly appearance. Once Mason arrived at Boger’s home, he was enthusiastic about leaving his rough lifestyle behind. Although he initially hid from Boger, he quickly gained the confidence to request what he desired the most – a lot of affection. Now, he eagerly awaits their arrival and seeks out attention from anyone who visits. Despite his grizzled appearance, Boger confirmed that he is a gentle cat that loves giving and receiving affection.
Mason had been living in solitude for quite some time, without anyone to take care of him, and it definitely had an impact on his well-being. According to Boger, they expected him to come in with tangled fur, dirty ears, fleas, and a generally disheveled appearance, but when he arrived, they were met with the most heart-breaking and ill-looking cat they had ever seen. Both of Mason’s ears were damaged, and he had noticeable scars on each side of his face. His coat was scaly and full of ringworm, and he was struggling with various health and dental problems.
After enduring multiple visits to the vet, Mason is now on the road to recovery and growing stronger every day. Despite facing some health setbacks, Boger reports that Mason’s condition is under control and he has been handling everything remarkably well. Despite his struggles, Mason remains a sweet and affectionate teddy bear who is eagerly waiting for someone to adopt him and become his closest friend. With Mason by your side, you’ll never feel alone and will always have a source of love and companionship.
