In Dorchester, Massachusetts, a small and helpless kitten was discovered abandoned near a trash bin. The poor animal was only six months old and looked to be in a terrible condition, malnourished and filthy. It was clear that the little kitty needed professional medical care as soon as possible. Thankfully, a kindhearted person found the feline and brought it to the MSPCA-Angell Animal Welfare Center for treatment. The kitten, now named Nigel, had an infection on its muzzle which resulted in discolored skin around its nose. The veterinary staff promptly administered antibiotics and pain relief medication to help the baby cat recover.
The vets encountered a challenging situation when they discovered that Nigel’s health was worse than initially assumed. To everyone’s surprise, a section of his nose fell off one day, and the cause is still uncertain, though medical experts believe it may have been due to some form of trauma.
A surgeon from the hospital suggested that Nigel may have had a previous facial injury that caused an infection. This could have caused the tissues in his nose to deteriorate over time.
Although Nigel’s muzzle was partially lost, the veterinary team and volunteers refused to abandon him. Despite his altered appearance, he remains a regular kitten deserving of a new lease on life.
Nigel was placed in a foster home temporarily while the MSPCA ensured his well-being. Following a successful operation on his face, the kitten made a speedy recovery. However, during the healing process, Nigel’s lower fangs started growing into his new upper lip. Consequently, the doctors had to remove the teeth, which they did with great success.
Do you want to hear the best news ever? Nigel has finally found his forever home! He’s now living with a new mom who happens to be a licensed veterinarian, and even has a furry feline friend to keep him company.
