The Manchester City sensation had an outstanding season, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists as his team secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title. Despite waiting for his chance to shine at City, Foden has now become a regular starter for both his club and national team. Additionally, he stepped up during Kevin De Bruyne’s injury absence and proved his worth.
Khadija Shaw clinches the women’s award for scoring the most goals in the WSL, totaling 21 goals for the season.
Shaw scored an impressive tally of 21 goals in just 18 games for Gareth Taylor’s team before unfortunately getting injured. This raised speculation among fans that he could potentially take over as City’s top playmaker in the future. Despite being judged based on their Premier League performances, the 24-year-old from Stockport excelled in competitions outside of the league. Foden showcased his skills in various matches across different tournaments, achieving a personal record of 27 goals and 12 assists while City fought on multiple fronts. Although City’s journey in the Champions League ended in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid, Foden shone in the 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, proving his value at the highest level.
Foden has now been awarded the prize that was previously held by Erling Haaland, who was also in the running for it once more.
Shaw faced a setback with an injury towards the end of the season, yet managed to outscore her fellow players. Foden, who recently earned the title of FWA Player of the Year, shared in an interview with Mail Sport his determination to excel daily. He mentioned a motivational slogan displayed at the training ground that reads: “Nobody has won four Premier Leagues in a row…yet.” This drives him to strive for greatness and create a legacy in the sport. Shaw, on the other hand, secured the Women’s Super League top scorer title for the first time last season by surpassing the 20-goal mark for the second consecutive campaign. Unfortunately, a foot injury sidelined her during the crucial stage of the season as her team, City, vied for the title, ultimately finishing as runners-up. Shaw had an impressive record of 21 goals in 18 matches for Gareth Taylor’s squad before her injury during a 5-0 victory over West Ham.
