Our beloved tom cats often face challenges in life and unfortunately, many of them don’t receive the happy ending they deserve. Such was the case for Rascal Wild, a tuxedo cat from Washington who had a rough start to life. He was discovered as a stray near a busy street and struggled to find a forever home due to his energetic personality. His owners revealed that the location where he was found on Google Maps was not suitable for a cat, with multiple lanes of traffic, train tracks, and a cemetery nearby. Perhaps he was abandoned because he was a wild, un-neutered big boy instead of a cute, cuddly kitten. When he arrived at the shelter, he was described as feisty, mischievous, and prone to getting into trouble because he hadn’t been taught that hands are not toys. It’s clear that the streets were not a safe place for Rascal Wild to be.
Fortunately, when Jim and Cerise heard about the story of the lively kitty, they were eager and willing to provide him with a loving home. They didn’t mind that he wasn’t particularly affectionate or fond of cuddling, because they felt an instant connection with him after hearing his story and seeing his photo. From that moment on, they knew he was meant to be with them. As they say, the rest is now history!
The owners of a charming cat created a social media profile for him, and it has gained an impressive following of over 30,000 fans who are delighted with his pictures. According to his bio, this feline beauty resides in Seattle and uses his adorable belly to attract people. He is also the elder sibling of another cute cat named @poly_dumplings.
I had the pleasure of connecting with the owners of Rascal, a mischievous feline known for his playful antics. They were kind enough to answer a few questions, providing me with some fascinating insights into this sprightly cat. Rascal has earned himself the nickname “It’s a Trap” because of his sly tactics of pretending to want a belly rub before launching a surprise attack. In other words, he’s a pro at trapping unsuspecting victims with his irresistible charm. Keep reading to discover more about this cunning little prankster!
Can you share the story of how Rascal transformed since he came to live with you? Back when he was discovered, he was a stray boy who had not been neutered yet. The shelter that took him in estimated his age to be around 2 years old, although it’s possible that he was slightly younger. Fast forward to today and he is now a mature seven-year-old who has really calmed down over the past five years.
It seems like the name Rascal suits him perfectly. When we first got him, his shelter given name was Rascal and we decided to keep it since it was very fitting for his mischievous personality. We didn’t even consider changing it.
How does this 14-year-old cat get along with his feline siblings? According to Jinxy’s owner, they have a respectful standoff where all the cats coexist peacefully. Despite one of the cats secretly loving the others, they still maintain a harmonious relationship. Jinxy is often seen hanging out with his cat mate, begging for chicken. His owner, who adopted him and his siblings when they were kittens, initially worried about how he would get along with the other cats. But after introducing them slowly, they eventually became the best of friends. Gyoza and Gnocchi are now Jinxy’s personal groomers and playmates, and they often engage in playful tumbles together. Overall, Jinxy’s owner couldn’t be happier with how well their cats have bonded, and they all look great together as a family.
Is there something special you’d like people to know about him? “Although he is initially wary of people, once he trusts you, his love is unconditional. He has a hidden sweet side that balances out his wild personality, and his purr is simply enormous.”
According to popular belief, tuxedo cats have a reputation for having a strong personality. On a scale of one to 10, how would you rate Rascal’s cattitude? I would give him a 12! When he first joined our home, he was very energetic and enjoyed playfully attacking and nibbling on us. However, as time passed, he has become more fond of being groomed and receiving affection when he’s in the mood. Occasionally, he may become overly stimulated and nip at us to let us know that he needs some alone time.
Rascal appears to be a huge cat because he is one! Weighing in at 20 pounds, it’s not surprising since tuxedo cats are often large and in control. If you’re like me and can’t get enough of Rascal’s crazy cat behavior, follow him on Instagram for daily updates. In this photo, he’s attempting to lure his owners into giving him a belly rub, but they know better because his claws can be deadly. (Interestingly, my tuxedo cat does the same thing!)
If you know someone who is fond of tuxedo cats, feel free to share Rascal’s story with them! I want to express my gratitude to Jim and Cerise, Rascal’s owners, for giving me permission to share his story with all of you. I hope you enjoyed reading about him just as much as I did. Also, don’t forget to take a look at Rascal’s cat housemates, the Poly Dumplings, also known as Gyoza Gnocchi. These adorable polydactyl cats are perfect for those who have a soft spot for cute cats with extra toes!
